I am a project and website manager with experience planning, developing, managing and revising a range of websites. With a background in code writing and science and experience in marketing and communications teams I am able to work as a liaison between all departments involved in creating and running effective websites.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Jan 2007-Nov 2008: Royal Television Society
Web Project Manager
I project managed the launch of a new membership scheme for the Royal Television Society called RTS Futures, targeting under 30s working in television. The scheme was centred on a website (http://www.rtsfutures.org.uk) which allows visitors to register and pay for membership, share their thoughts and media with other members and find out more information about the television industry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development of the specifications and requirements for the RTS Futures Website
  • Selection of agency and hosting companies and management of budget
  • Liaising with agencies during design, development and testing of website and CMS
  • User testing during development of the site and profiling of target users
  • Overseeing launch of the site and membership scheme including liaising with press and marketing teams
  • Editorial oversight of articles, editorial and communications
  • Customer service and community management
  • Aiding the organisation of events including a launch party at Madame Tusssauds
  • Reporting on the site, events and membership internally and to senior executives at major broadcasters
  • Management of the main RTS website (http://www.rts.org.uk) including writing, editing and uploading news and information on events and assisting the regional webmasters managing their mini-sites.
  • Jun 2006-Jan 2007: Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
    Electronic Information Officer
    My role in the communications team focused on management of the college’s website and liaising between the various departments and agencies to deliver information efficiently and coherently to the membership.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Editorial oversight of articles and editorial content on the website (http://www.rcslt.org.uk)
  • Liaising with other internal departments on generating content for website
  • Working with speech therapists to create resource packs to aid department managers
  • Re-negotiation of contract with web agency for ongoing support and hosting
  • Assisting with the monthly magazine including writing several small articles, proof reading and sub-editing
  • Improving information architecture and processes for the office IT systems
  • Jan 2006 – Present: Freelance Consultant
    I freelance as a consultant focussing on usability, development and brand management issues

  • NewsBiscuit, a satirical news site. I performed competition research and proposed several development strategies in the very early days of the project.
  • Purple Cloud, a small web hosting company were re-branding and re-launching their website and services. I assisted in the testing and usability analysis as well as consulting on branding issues.
  • Feb 2003 – Dec 2005: Macrospace ltd/Glu Mobile
    Web Developer, Product Manager, Project Manager: Web and Interactive
    I joined the services department of this mobile game production and distribution company as a front end Web Developer. I was later promoted to Product Manager, liaising with clients regarding their requirements.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Oversight of front ends on multiple game sales sites on web, WAP and i-mode in over twenty countries
  • Project manager for the development of a template site (http://www.mobu.com) customisable by language, colour and display size for fast deployments of sales sites for clients
  • Design, development and management of a new Macrospace corporate web site, shop and extranet
  • Development of several internal web tools including a wiki intranet and an application for use by the QA team to track the company’s mobile phones.
  • In April 2005, following a merger and rebranding of the company to become Glu Mobile, I moved to the marketing team as Project Manager: Web and Interactive.

    Key responsibilities:

  • All corporate websites, including game mini sites and pages relating to promotions and competitions.
  • Creation of a long-term strategy for the company web presence including liaising between various departments in the UK and US to ensure the sites met both corporate and user requirements.
  • Development and management of a monthly HTML newsletter that was sent to several thousand customers.
  • A usability study on the new corporate website and competitor sites
  • Recording and analysing website metrics, including reporting on marketing campaigns, user habits and product performance to other departments
  • Assisting marketing and PR team with product resources, press releases and branding processes
  • 2000–2001: Schools' Liaison Office, Imperial College
    The school's liaison office ran a variety of education events for secondary school children to encourage interest in science, I assisted on these courses in a number of positions:

  • Pastoral Mentor responsible for groups of children staying on residential courses, dealing with health and safety matters and entertainment.
  • Academic Mentor tutoring, assisting in laboratory work and guidance for projects
  • Session Leader teaching a range of subjects including electronics, chemistry, communications and physics
  • Workshop co-ordinator on a one day robotics course for 150 children, organising structure and content.
  • Pimlico Link Tutor – the School's Liaison Office also placed students in local schools once a week to assist teachers. I tutored at Holland Park High School for two years and also acted as liaison between the student tutors and the school.
  • EDUCATION

    Sep 2003–Dec 2003: London School of Journalism
    Freelance Journalism
    An 8 session evening course introducing the key elements of freelance journalism including sessions on reviewing, interviewing, news reporting and the structure of articles. There was also information on the practical aspects of being a freelance writer including how to pitch to editors and legal responsibilities.

    Oct 2001–Sep 2002: London Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine
    MSc in History of Science, Technology and Medicine
    The course covered a wide range of topics from ancient civilisations to the twentieth century and various historiographical methods. In addition to a core course covering an extensive range of topics I took options in Western Medical Tradition, 20th century Science, Technology and Medicine and the Age of Industries.

    Oct 1997 – Jul 2001: Imperial College, London
    2:1 Physics MSci, ARCS
    My physics degree included large amounts of computing, mathematics, laboratory work and problem solving. In addition to core courses I have taken options in Medical Physics, Electronics, History of Science, Lasers and Holography, Space Physics, Cosmology, Atmospheric Physics and Plasma Physics.

    Sep 1990 – Jul 1997: Woodford County High School, Redbridge
    A–Levels - Physics (A), Maths (A), Classical Civilisations (A), Chemistry (B) GCSEs – 5 A*s (including Maths, and Double Science), 3As (including English Language) and a B (English Literature)

    INTERESTS

    Computing – I have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, graphics programs such as Paintshop Pro and Adobe Photoshop, and Desktop publishers such as Quark. I am able to design and maintain Web, WAP and i-mode sites either coding HTML directly or using a content management system. I used PHP and sql to create and manage my own website (http://www.sulkyblue.co.uk)

    I enjoy the cinema, television, photography, reading, gaming, following Formula 1 and travelling.
